F.A.Q!
This is probably the hardest page to write. There are so many questions that this page will probably have to be updated daily. Probably hourly. But i’ll cover some common ones. Obviously if there are any super specific ones that require an individual answer, then please feel free to email or leave a comment.
My <left/right> ear is thin.. How can I thicken it up?
Well, there is no 100% fix for this. Although there are steps you can take to hopefully try and thicken up your ear, not everything will work depending on the thinness of the lobe and the over all condition. So, taking into fact that its just a standard thinning lobe, that wasn’t too rushed, at say 1″, my advice would be to downsize by around 2 – 6mm, and do vitamin e rubs daily, to ensure the ear closes up around the smaller jewellery. By doing this you’re increasing blood flow, and you’re also giving your ear a chance to shrink down, and when you re-stretch it your ear will develop collagen. If you stretch too quick your ear doesn’t develop the collagen in time to make the stretch span evenly across the ear. So, take it slow. Don’t rush, if you take it nice and slow, you won’t have the problem of a thinning ear.
My ear is bleeding help!!
Generally, a bleeding ear is bad. Not the end of the world, but bad none the less. Why is it bleeding? People are never 100% honest. I’m gonna throw it out there. You stretched too quick, and forced something through that didn’t want to. Just because you made it fit, doesn’t mean it was meant to. People hate this next part. Downsize back to your original jewellery. Clean your ear with Salt and lute warm water (saline). Try not to use an antibacterial cream on it, as these although effective on cuts, aren’t good for ears. Generally because if you don’t clean the antibac cream out, it can sit around the ear and contain harmful bacteria. Do saline soaks, using cotton wool and the saline, or if your ears are big enough submerge them into a cup of water. If you downsize and clean it twice a day, your ear will stop bleeding, swelling will go down and your ear will be good to be stretched again in about 4/5wks time. It may seem arduous, and it may be inconvenient, but well you shouldn’t have rushed it then
. Whatever you do though, don’t leave it in thinking the ear will heal itself. As it won’t. Taking out jewellery in a sore ear hurts bad enough without trying to get it back in again. Its not worth the damage you can cause your ears. Especially if you’re in the smaller stages it can cause scar tissue to develop and will stun you in your chances of going back to normal if you so wish to do so later in life.
What is the best oil to use on my ears?
Well, I have used a few. Vitamin E oil is the key. Non-scented, and just raw vitamin e oil is the best. I have used Jojoba, Emu oil and Bio-oil. Jojoba is for the more animal friendly of you, Emu oil I found worked the best, and as much as I love Bio Oil I find it is far too greasy, and find my jewellery always falls out for a few days after massaging my ears. Jojoba is good, but I didn’t feel it was effective as emu oil. You can get cheap variants of Vitamin E oil, which are just labelled as such. These are ok, but i’ve never used. Stick to Jojoba, Bio-Oil and Emu Oil.
Should I use lubricant? If so which kind..
It maybe embarrassing, but KY Jelly is your friend. Its water based, it won’t stick on your ear, and it is just generally the best to use. Never use petrolium based lubricants as these don’t act as a lubricant and actually do the reverse of what a lubricant is to be used for on an ear. Also, using your vitamin e oil works as a good lubricant and also doubles as a massage. Win-Win!
Where can I buy Jewellery from?
Well, there is an infinite supply of places to buy body jewellery from. Places I respect are:
http://www.bodyartforms.com
http://www.bodyjewelleryshop.com
http://www.aestheticsbodymod.com/
Bodyartforms has lots of plugs up 3″, bodyjewelleryshop is more specific on smaller sizes, at around 1″ and 1 1/2″. Aesthetic on the other hand deal with alot of custom jewellery, and can make plugs upto 4″! These are my favorite places to go for jewellery. They have hundreds of tapers, plugs, and god knows what else you need!
Well, this is all I can think of for now, if you have a question please email.
